Students have the opportunity to participate in a range of sports and activities as part of the Mansfield SHS curriculum and as an extra-curricular activity. The school sporting facilities include a purpose built indoor sports centre, outdoor courts and a full-sized athletics oval. School representative opportunities are available at district and zone levels, interschool sport competitions and external tournaments.
Health and physical education is included in the junior school curriculum for all students in years 7 to 9. Students in years 10, 11 and 12 may elect to study health, sport and recreation and physical education as part of the senior school curriculumA certificate III in fitness can be studied in years 11 and 12.
Mansfield Activities Program (MAP) is offered to all students. An extensive range of sports and non-sporting activities are offered across two afternoons. Junior students participate on Tuesdays and seniors on Wednesdays during period four.
Mansfield SHS competes in summer and winter interschool sport competitions in the south district. Fixtures are held each Tuesday (juniors) and Wednesday (seniors) during MAP. Students can nominate for selection through trials held at the start of each competition.
All students are allocated to a sporting house and can compete at interschool carnivals for

- Athletics and field events
Interschool carnivals are whole school events. Students attending will wear their sports uniform with coloured house shirt.
Information on the dates and venues are included in the school calendar, newsletter and emailed to students. For events held at an external venue parents will receive an email with a link to provide permission for the student to attend. There are no additional fees for events held at external venues.
Students competing in these carnivals may progress to representing Mansfield SHS at the district level, regional competitions or nationals. Students who qualify will be contacted directly by the sports department.

Mansfield sporting group (MSG) offers the extracurricular sports of basketball, futsal, netball, touch football and volleyball. Training is held before and after school, with students selected from training squads to compete in competitions and tournaments.
Russell Miller Cup
The teachers versus students' competition known as the Russell Miller Cup is an inhouse sporting competition named after Mr Russell Miller who was Deputy Principal at Mansfield SHS and dedicated to sport from school level competition through to national level. Played in lunchtime, this staff versus students' competition is fiercely fought in a variety of sports. Information is emailed to students prior to each match, including how many students may participate.
