Extra-curricular

Mansfield State High School offers students the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of academic, cultural, sporting, and community focused activities and clubs throughout the year.

Instrumental music program (Mansfield Music)

Mansfield Music is a well-established program that sees about 700 students enrolled each year. Over thirty different ensembles present at various Mansfield and local community music concerts throughout the year. These include: Fanfare, Creative Generation, ANZAC Day school and local ceremonies, and jazz performances. Our outstanding musicians regularly win prestigious awards leading to invitations to participate in public performances such as the TJ Ryan Awards and the Showcase for Excellence Awards.

School performances

The school musical production or school production is a whole school effort involving every school department from acting and singing through to mixing, choreography and set design. It is a thoroughly enjoyable and exciting event for everyone involved.  Additionally, every year the following events occur:
  • Various Music concerts particularly, in March, May and November
  • Drama and Dance performances
  • Exhibitions of works by the students of Art
  • Films created by students.

Sport

Mansfield High's reputation as a tenacious sporting school is known throughout the Metropolitan East region. Accommodating a vast range of disciplines from athletics to volleyball, we house a number of Metropolitan, State and National representatives. The strength of competitors can be directly attributed to the commitment and discipline that is encouraged, taught and modelled here at Mansfield on a daily basis. From basketball to badminton and from swimming to soccer, we enjoy many successful sporting seasons.

Mansfield High School students may participate in the Queensland Debating Union (QDU) schools' competition and other relevant competitions. Teams from Year 7 to 12 participate. Debating is an activity that requires teamwork, an ability to think analytically and develop effective presentation skills.

Volunteer@Mansfield (V@M)

This initiative encourages students to be involved and to help others.  It includes activities such as:
  • the Rauchle Service Club
  • the Environmental Council
  • Production Support
  • IT Support
  • generally volunteering around the school in subject departments, as well as for tasks such as gardening and assisting with mail outs.
By being involved in V@M activities, students experience the joy of helping others.  Additionally, students are credited with service "minutes" which can contribute to service awards.

Rauchle club

The Rauchle Club is our home grown service club, which supports many different organisations and groups through fund-raising and giving of their time. The Mater Children’s Hospital, CanTeen Queensland, and the Smith Family’s Reader to Reader programare just some of the groups supported by our Rauchle Club.

Environmental council

The Environmental Council is actively involved in improving our school and wider environment with its goal of making a greener Australia. Members participate in events such as: Clean up Australia Day, National Tree Day, Arbor Day and working bees. The Environmental Council continues to make Mansfield High an active Reef Guardian School, as displayed on the sign at the front of our school.

Reading group

This group consists of students from Year 8 to Year 12, parents and staff. To ensure that all literature coming into the Resource Centre is informative and interesting but not offensive, this group reads and evaluates each new item for either general reading and/or for class sets. In this way we keep our class sets and general reading up to date. The group meets once per Term to discuss and enjoy the books read. Meetings are held mostly on a Thursday from 3-4pm in the air-conditioned Resource Centre. Further information may be obtained from the Resource Centre staff.

Other extra-curricular / co-curricular activities

The range of other extra-curricular / co-curricular activities is extensive and includes:  competitions, excursions, camps, snow trip, and cultural exchanges.
