1to1 Technology Program at Mansfield SHS
Our world is changing more rapidly than at any other time with the influence of technology spreading to touch every aspect of our lives. Queensland children and young people are ready to engage in this exciting future.
Technology is everywhere - entwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With mobile and other wireless devices like the IoT (Internet of Things) becoming an increasing requirement across every industry today, it only makes sense that Mansfield SHS makes effective use of technology in the classroom.
All students at Mansfield SHS will use laptops to personalise and enrich their learning experience. There will be two main options to parents for providing a laptop: a School Managed Laptop Program or Bring Your Own Device Program (BYOD).
A summary of our laptop process can be found here.

Daily operation BYOD vs School Managed
It is important to understand how to use the laptops within the school environment. Plus it is important to understand the differences between BYO and School managed laptop usage. Please see the 'Daily Routine' documents in the side column for a brief overview of how each type of device operates at school.
Please remember that school managed laptops are part of the system. They will automatically connect to Wi-Fi, printers etc. as this is built-in to the system. BYO devices have no such capability. Therefore you need to connect to our systems manually.
Here is a brief summary of the systems we provide for BYO laptops to help this process:
More details can be found on the BYOD section of this website.
Current Students
Students already on the 2023 or 2024 School Managed Laptop Program don't need to complete any forms. Your existing agreement covers 3 years.
Students on the 2022 School Managed Laptop Program can choose to join the 2025 program with the new laptop available from the final week of the school year. Or choose to move to the BYOD program for 2025 with either the same laptop or a different device. There is also the option to trade in your 2022 laptop in good working order for a $200 credit towards school fees - contact the school IT help desk for the form or information.
Students already on the BYOD program can complete the Continuing Program form to stay on the BYOD program or can join the 2025 School Managed Laptop Program.

Further information will be made available throughout the year as it comes to hand. Should you have any queries regarding the 1to1 Technology Program at Mansfield State High, please feel free to contact our IT Manager - Michael Sisson.
2025 Laptop Model
This is the recommended option but is not mandatory.
The school purchases the laptops and parents pay an upfront fee for use of the laptop for three years. This all-inclusive cost covers the following:
- A single laptop option that meets the recommended hardware requirements of all subjects offered.
- Robust commercial grade laptop built for the rigours of school and guaranteed to work on the school network.
- Three year next business day warranty and accidental damage protection.
- Covered against theft through school insurance.
- Enterprise Windows 10 operating system including updates and patches.
- All school specific software included, installed and maintained.
- Full technical support via the IT Helpdesk including a hot swap laptop if repairs are needed.
- Filtered Internet both at school and at home.
Please refer to the information to the side to join the School Managed Laptop Program.
Important Information: The school managed laptop program is for three years. At the end of the program there is the option to continue to use the laptop in the BYOD program. The laptop will no longer be under the ownership of the school and the conditions of the BYOD program will apply. There will not be cover for warranty and accidental protection and any maintenance or repair will the responsibility of the family.
Please Note: The School Managed Laptop Program is not a hire or loan agreement; laptops are required to be paid in full before the laptop can be issued.
Please return the completed form to the School Administration or email to 1to1Program@mansfieldshs.eq.edu.au
The BYO option is for those families that may already have an appropriate device. Please be aware that there are some challenges with BYOD.
Although the school can provide Microsoft Office and some Adobe programs for free, additional software will need to be purchased by families. This will vary depending on subject selections.
IT Technicians will not be able to diagnose or repair BYO devices apart from issues with connecting to the school network. (It is possible some devices may not connect to the network) Repairs and warranty claims will need to be handled by families.
Mansfield SHS now has BYOD Portals to help with some of the challenges of BYOD. The use of these portals is not compulsory, but can help with the selection of a BYO device.
Please refer to the information on the side to join the BYOD Program.
Please return the completed form to the School Administration or email to 1to1Program@mansfieldshs.eq.edu.au
On-Boarding
To enable students to easily access departmental resources on their own devices, the Department of Education is implementing ‘Enterprise Mobility Services’: a suite of products including ‘Microsoft Intune’. Information regarding Microsoft Intune can be found in the MS Intune Fact Sheet (PDF, 510KB).
On-boarding (or enrolling) your device allows it to connect to the school network and gain access to a portal with apps and important links. The device is best enrolled at home using either the Windows 10 or Apple Mac instructions. Once enrolled, the devices will automatically connect to the school network. If the device is not enrolled when brought to school, an extra step is needed to connect to the school network before then enrolling the device.
What Intune does
This software enables mobile configuration settings to be deployed to devices to:
Enable Wi-Fi Connectivity to the school’s network Enable automatic setup of the device’s default mail application to add the student’s departmental email account
Enable access to a school selected list of mobile or store applications
Enable access to a school selected list of websites
Enable students and central office support staff the ability to remove the device from Intune
Enable students the ability to ‘factory reset’ a lost or stolen device.
Students can perform this remotely via the self-service console.
Provide information on applications installed through Intune
Provide some information such as username, device serial number, device name, model, manufacturer, OS name and version
What Intune does not do
Does not monitor student’s use of the device
Does not track student’s locations
Does not provide information on personally installed applications
Does not allow uninstalling of personal applications
There are two parts to the on-boarding process which is outlined in the checklist.
- First step is to enrol in Intune - this should be done at home.
- Second step is to map school drives and printing - this can only be done at school. This step uses a small app which can be saved on the student's desktop and run once connected to the school network. Copies of the app can be found via the Intune Self-Service Portal or on the school SharePoint.
