Mansfield sporting group (MSG) offers the extracurricular sports of basketball, futsal, netball, touch football and volleyball.
The MSG program aims to:
- offer opportunities for students to develop sport specific skills
- increase the level of interest and participation in sport
- provide structured opportunities for students to participate in physical activity
- create opportunities to engage, connect and interact with peers.
The MSG program includes:
- coach-led training sessions
- participation in competitions and events including local, state and national levels
- opportunities for student to referee and coach
- professional team photographs.
Team trials
MSG teams and playing squads are selected through trials. The opportunity to trial is offered to all students through student notices, emails, assemblies and Head of Year weekly newssheets. We encourage you to support your child to be actively reading notices leading up to the trial periods so that they do not miss opportunities.
As teams within each sport and age group are limited, not all students who trial will be successful. Students who are unsuccessful are encouraged to participate in other extracurricular sporting opportunities such as Gala Days. These events have the capacity for the school to field additional teams and offer opportunities to players whose skill development may not be of the standard required to play for MSG.
Training
Students who trial and are selected in a MSG team are committing to regularly attending training and being available for games throughout the season. Team sports require individual students to make this commitment and to uphold the commitment for the duration of the season. In instances where another school activity or other commitment may conflict with availability, students are expected to inform their coach promptly and work to minimise the impact on the team.
Participation fees
Extracurricular sport at Mansfield State High School operates on a user-pays basis, where the direct costs of participation are the responsibility of the student's parent or caregiver. Costs vary between each sports with a guide provided to all parents at the start of the school year. If your child is selected, the cost will be detailed in the Letter of Offer.
In 2025 all costs are a total season charge which will be invoiced for payment in full. This replaces the previous system where invoices were issued for individual tournaments and events. The season cost will include registration, event and program fees. It does not include the players kit which must be purchased from the Uniform Shop.
Students participating in extracurricular sports must have no outstanding school fees and must pay have paid the MSG program invoice.
MSG Uniform
Students playing MSG sports wear a separate uniform that can be viewed and purchased online. The MSG uniform cannot be worn at school and does not replace the school sports uniform.
Player shirts/dresses are custom uniforms with the player name and number. These items are pre-order and take 6-8 weeks to manufacture and are non-refundable. Non custom items such as shorts and socks are held in stock by the Uniform Shop and may be purchased as required.
Only MSG squad members may purchase uniforms. Please confirm uniform deadlines and requirements with your coach - orders are usually placed once a term and deadlines must be adhered to. Player numbers are issued by the Director of Sport.
