Languages are a compulsory subject at Mansfield State High School in Year 7 and 8 with students selecting either French or Japanese. Students have the opportunity from Year 9 onwards to study a Language elective that is suited to their interests and ability.

The French Immersion program is a selective entry program available to students enrolling in Year 7. Please refer to Programs of Excellence​ information on this website for the application process.

Mansfield teaches the Australian Curriculum 9.0. Please refer to the Queensland Curriculum & Authority website​ for information specific to the achievement standards and content description. Mansfield's year level curriculum guides provide detailed information on the subjects available at our school.

​Students will study one Language for one semester each year:

​3 classes per week for one semester each year

​Year 9

Students have a choice of up to four electives (two each Semester) from the range of electives offered in Year 9. Language electives are studied in both semesters.

Languages options are:

  • French
  • French Immersion (Immersion students only)
  • Japanese
​3 classes per week 

​Year 10​​​

Students must study eight electives in Year 10 (four each semester). Language electives are studied in both semesters.

Languages options are:

  • Preparatory French (G)
  • Preparatory French Extension (G)
  • Preparatory Japanese (G)

​Year 11 and 12

Students will study a combination of six senior subjects to gain a QCE. 

Languages options are:
