Our Junior school consists of students in Years 7, 8 and 9. Students in these years will study a range of core subjects and electives.
Year 7 and 8
In Year 7 and 8, students will study four core subjects for the year, two core subjects for a semester each (their chosen language and Health and Physical Education) and select two electives, with one completed per semester.
Core subjects include:
- English
- Maths
- Science
- Humanities
- Language / Health and Physical Education (one each semester).
Students will select two electives for the year, one from each group:
- The Arts (Drama, Media Arts, Music or Visual Art)
- Technologies (Design Technology, Digital Solutions or Food Technology).
The curriculum guides provide detailed information to assist students to plan subject selections.
Year 7 students will select their subjects in their enrolment application to attend Mansfield State High School.
Year 8 students will make their selections during their MyPath interview in Term 3.
Year 9
Students in Year 9 will complete five core subjects over a year with the opportunity to select two electives each semester. The core units include English, Mathematics, Science and a semester each of History and HPE.
Electives are studied for the semester (other than languages which are studied for the year). Electives are selected from the Learning Areas of Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Languages, Technologies and The Arts.
The curriculum guide provides detailed information to assist students to plan subject selections. Students will select Year 9 subjects during Term 3 of Year 8.
Year 10
Year 10 is part of the senior curriculum. Students currently in Year 9 will select their Year 10 subjects in Term 3. The Senior Curriculum page of the website includes information on senior pathways and the Year 10 Pathways to QCE guide.
