1to1 Technology Program at Mansfield SHS

Our world is changing more rapidly than at any other time with the influence of technology spreading to touch every aspect of our lives. Queensland children and young people are ready to engage in this exciting future.

Technology is everywhere - entwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With mobile and other wireless devices like the IoT (Internet of Things) becoming an increasing requirement across every industry today, it only makes sense that Mansfield SHS makes effective use of technology in the classroom.

All students at Mansfield SHS will use laptops to personalise and enrich their learning experience. There will be two main options to parents for providing a laptop: a School Laptop Program (CYOD) or Bring Your Own Device Program (BYOD).

Daily operation BYOD vs CYOD

It is important to understand how to use the laptops within the school environment. Plus it is important to understand the differences between BYO and School (CYO) laptop usage. Please see the 'Daily Routine' documents in the side column for a brief overview of how each type of device operates at school.

Please remember that school devices (CYO) are part of the system. They will automatically connect to Wi-Fi, printers etc. as this is built-in to the system. BYO devices have no such capability. Therefore you need to connect to our systems manually.

Here is a brief summary of the systems we provide for BYO laptops to help this process:

  • Microsoft Intune – connecting to Intune provides access to our wireless.

  • BYOx App – running the BYOx app connects your laptop to G: drive and school printers. This only works at school and needs to be run each day.

  • PaperCut client – this checks you have sufficient printing credit. Only needs to be run if you want to print but you must have already run BYOx app.

More details can be found on the BYOD section of this website.

Continuing from 2021

Students moving into year 10 that joined the CYOD program in 2019 have three options: Flyer (PDF)

  • Keep using their current device but under the BYOD program without warranty or ADP

  • Trade in their current device that is in good working order for a $100 credit towards school fees and choose between the CYOD and BYOD options for 2022

  • Keep their current device but choose a new device from the CYOD or BYOD options

Any other continuing students who joined the CYOD or BYOD program in 2020 or 2021 will need to complete a Continuing Program form (PDF, 517KB). This form reinforces the family's commitment to Responsible Use of laptops while at school. Failure to return a signed form may mean removal of access to the school network.

Continuing students that wish to choose the CYOD 2022 option will need to return the CYOD Participation Form on or before the first day of term 4.

BYO devices can be brought to school once agreement forms are signed and levy has been paid (Invoice for levy will be forwarded in March). There is an initial joining process to connect to the school network. Instructions can be found on the BYOD page. Once the enrolment process is completed the laptops will connect to the school network automatically. The enrolment process is best performed at home.
