An important message to our Parents about eSafety.
Mansfield State High School’s mission is to ensure that your child maintains Quality Learning in a Caring Environment.
To support parents in the maintenance of positive and safe online experiences, the following information has been selected from the Federal Government’s eSafety website.

Online Safety is about clear communication
To help you understand your child’s use of technology, talk to them about what they are doing online. Seek to understand where and how your child is using digital technology for learning, recreation and communicating with other people.
Familiarise yourself with, and set some clear rules about, your child’s use of
- learning apps
- websites
- games
- other apps.
Building digital intelligence
Remind your child to be kind. This is so important during challenging times.
Encourage your child to use the same positive manners and behaviour they would use offline. If it is not OK to say or do something face to face, it is not OK online.
Encourage your child to think critically about what they read and see online so they may identify content or messages that may be untrue, misleading or harmful.
Everyone has a ‘digital reputation’ It is best practice to think about everything that you might want to post or share. A good filter is to ask:
“Would I be ok with showing this to my Parents?…my Grandmother? …my Teacher?
Be aware of criminal charges that may commence if a person is caught posting or sharing inappropriate materials
Safeguard Personal information
Tell your child to be wary of sharing their image and other personal information that could be used to identify or locate them.
To ensure Online Safety it is best practice to:
- create and use strong passwords that are not shared
- configure strong privacy settings for all sites
- be suspicious of unsolicited messages and emails
Tame the Technology
There are useful parental controls and tools that allow a parent to
- block specific undesirable websites
- filter content
- monitor the use of devices, sites and apps
- set time limits
