Running since 1991, the highly successful French Immersion program provides instruction to students completely through the French language in Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, HPE and French. Classes, workbooks, homework and exams are all in French. It is part of a dual focused educational approach in which French, as the additional language, is used for the learning and teaching of both content and language (CLIL). This program provides an exciting challenge for motivated students and not only enables academic excellence, but complete proficiency in French. This gifted and talented program provides highly motivated students with the opportunity to extend themselves and to be challenged to do their best.
No previous French?
Most Immersion students have never done French before. An intensive French course starts the program and prepares students effectively to cope in the French Immersion classroom.
Why study in the French Immersion Program?
It provides an opportunity to reach a very high level of proficiency in a widely used second language while completing the same national curriculum as mainstream students. The selection process ensures a top-quality class full of bright, enthusiastic students.
French Immersion leads on to Senior French and/or Advanced French in Year 12. Studying Senior French and Advanced French can count for six semester units. Year 12 students who were part of the Immersion program achieve outstanding results. Additionally, by completing a language, students may be able to earn bonus ranks towards university admission.
Students pay the usual subject charges (plus extra costs for resources produced in French in lieu of textbooks).
This is a 4 year program. Successful applicants are expected to remain in the program for the entire duration. Through the completion of this course, students may continue their French studies in the Senior school to an advanced extension level.
Entry into this program is by selection.
