Computer and internet

Mansfield State High School boasts a number of specialty computer laboratories and a range of laptops in mobile trolleys to service general classrooms across the school.  Desktop (and laptop) computers are maintained through an excellent support network both in-house and as part of Education Queensland's Managed Operating Environment. Our computers are kept up to date with the likes of Windows 8, Microsoft Office 2013, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and AutoCAD (to name a few).

The internet connection at our school is one of the fastest state school connections available.  It provides a secure managed environment where we can all feel confident that students are secure and safe from the negative delights of the internet.  Students also receive both online learning environments and Education Queensland email under this system.

1to1 Technology Program @ Mansfield SHS

Starting in 2018, students in years 7, 10 and 11 will be expected to have 1to1 access to a device for each of their classes. There will be two main options to parents for providing a device:
  1. Choose Your Own Device (CYOD)
  2. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Information sessions will be held in term 3 2017 to outline the options and answer questions. Students enrolling into year 7 2018 are welcome at either night.

  • Year 10 into 11 evening 6:00pm Monday 14 August.
  • Year 9 into 10 evening 6:00pm Monday 11 September.

The preferred option is CYOD. With this option the school purchases the laptops and parents pay an upfront fee for use of the laptop for three years. This all-inclusive cost covers the following:

  • A robust commercial grade device built for the rigours of school and guaranteed to work on the school network.
  • Three year next business day warranty and accidental damage protection.
  • Covered against theft through school insurance.
  • Enterprise Windows 10 operating system including updates and patches.
  • All school specific software included, installed and maintained.
  • Full technical support via the IT Helpdesk including a hot swap device if repairs are needed.
  • Filtered Internet both at school and at home.

The BYO option is for those families that may already have an appropriate device. Please be aware that there are some challenges with BYOD

  • Although the school can provide Microsoft Office and some Adobe programs for free, addtional software will need to be purchased by families. This will vary depending on subject selections.
  • IT Technicians will not be able to diagnose or repair BYO devices apart from issues with connecting to the school network. (It is possible some devices may not connect to the network) Repairs and warranty claims will need to be handled by families.
