1to1 Technology Program @ Mansfield SHS

Our world is changing more rapidly than at any other time with the influence of technology spreading to touch every aspect of our lives. Queensland children and young people are ready to engage in this exciting future.

Technology is everywhere--entwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With mobile and other wireless devices like the IoT (Internet of Things) becoming an increasing requirement across every industry today, it only makes sense that Mansfield SHS makes effective use of technology in the classroom.

Starting in 2018, all students in years 7, 10 and 11 will use laptops to personalise and enrich their learning experience. Other year levels will follow suite in 2019. There will be two main options to parents for providing a laptop.

Orders will be taken at any time for the school program. A loan device will be provided while waiting for laptops to become available. Families just need to pay a deposit and commit to a payment plan.

BYO devices can be brought to school once agreement forms are signed and levy has been paid. There is an initial joining process to connect to the school network. Once this is completed the laptops will connect automatically.

School Laptop Program

This is the preferred option. The school purchases the laptops and parents pay an upfront fee for use of the laptop for three years. This all-inclusive cost covers the following:
  • A robust commercial grade device built for the rigours of school and guaranteed to work on the school network.
  • Three year next business day warranty and accidental damage protection.
  • Covered against theft through school insurance.
  • Enterprise Windows 10 operating system including updates and patches.
  • All school specific software included, installed and maintained.
  • Full technical support via the IT Helpdesk including a hot swap device if repairs are needed.
  • Filtered Internet both at school and at home.

There are a range of laptops to choose from with different specifications. You will need to specify your choice when completing the participant form.

BYOD Program

The BYO option is for those families that may already have an appropriate device. Please be aware that there are some challenges with BYOD.

  • Although the school can provide Microsoft Office and some Adobe programs for free, additional software will need to be purchased by families. This will vary depending on subject selections.
  • IT Technicians will not be able to diagnose or repair BYO devices apart from issues with connecting to the school network. (It is possible some devices may not connect to the network) Repairs and warranty claims will need to be handled by families.

Please refer to the information below to join the BYOD Program.

The first time students bring their laptop to school they will need to "on-board" their laptop. This process will allow the laptop to connect automatically from that point forward. Before on-boarding students should read the BYOD On-boarding Checklist. There are two parts to the on-boarding process which is outlined in the checklist. The first is to connect to the DETE-BYOx wireless network and the second is to map school drives and printing. The second step uses a small app which can be saved on the student's desktop and run once connected to the school network. Copies of the app can be downloaded from the links below:

BYOD Software

Microsoft Office

All Queensland state school students can download multiple free copies of the latest Microsoft Office to their personal home computers and mobile devices.

Students will need to use their school email address to sign in.

Microsoft Office 2016 is available for personal devices only, not devices that part of the school laptop program. These devices already have a licenced copy of Microsoft Office.

Your Office subscription lasts for as long as you’re a Queensland state school student.

For PC and Mac, visit, login using your school email address, click through to install and follow the onscreen process.

If you have trouble, please refer to the instructions on how to download and install Microsoft Office 2016 to your personal home computers:

Adobe CC

Click here to download Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) Direct : install any programs you believe you need for school or just to learn for fun by following these instructions. Take your laptop to the IT Help Desk to be seralised. Do not purchase any products as the school already is licensed for your BYOD and we will supply this as a part of your text and resource payment. Remember, to have this product serialised, you must have your school fees up to date.

Windows 10 Education

Many new laptops purchased in stores come with a version of Windows called Windows 10S. Windows 10S will not work on the school network. Queensland Education students are eligible for a free copy of Windows 10 Education. To access this free copy go to  and register with your school email address. You can then download a copy of Windows 10 Education that can be installed onto your laptop.

Anti-Virus Offer

Symantec offers the Norton Security anti-virus product to state school students for use on one of your devices at home. The product can be used with Windows, Mac, Android or iOS devices. Read more…
