Youth Parliament for Senior Secondary Legal Studies was held at Queensland Parliament House.

On Monday 14 May, seven Year 11 Legal Studies students participated in the 2012 Youth Parliament for Senior Secondary Legal Studies. Held at Queensland Parliament House, each student took on the role of a Member of Parliament and engaged in debate on the Youth School Students Safety Bill 2012, a mock bill with provisions relating to bullying and random drug testing at schools.

Several students also had the opportunity to speak on a matter of their own choice with interesting topics such as same sex marriage laws and transport and health services in Queensland. Pictured are Onali Perera, Leemay Harvey, Anika Want, Kaitlyn Brame, Jediah Franco, Daniel Burnett and Anthea Groves with Speaker of the Legislative Assembly & Member for Maroochydore, Fiona Simpson MP. Anika noted that “It was a fun, highly enjoyable and very interesting day,” providing students with the opportunity to experience first-hand the inner-workings of our state’s Legislative Assembly.
